On Tuesday, the anime distributor REMOW said that a television anime based on Teren Mikami's yuri romantic comedy novel series There's No Freaking Way I'll Be Your Lover! Unless... (Watashi ga Koibito ni Nareru Wake Naijan, Muri Muri! Muri Janakatta!? or WATANARE) will debut in July 2025.

Kanna Nakamura as Renako Amaori
Saori Ōnishi as Mai Ouzuka
Yukari Anzai as Ajisai Sena
Although their cast members were not disclosed, the release also teases the characters Satsuki Koto and Kaho Koyanagi.
The anime is being directed by Natsumi Uchinuma at Studio Mother. The series' scripts are being written and supervised by Naruhisa Arakawa. The characters are being designed by the artist Kojikoji. Chief animators Misaki Kaneko, Haruki Moriya, Takashi Shiokawa, Kino Tokino, and Keinosuke Ami are named. The soundtrack is being composed by Yoshiaki Fujisawa.
Yuri Takagi and Keito Watanabe are in charge of art direction, while Mitsuko Sekimoto is the color key artist. Ichiro Chaen is in charge of editing, while Takuma Morooka is the compositing director of photography. The sound director is Takayuki Yamaguchi.
Plot of the story:
Renako Amaori is leaving her awkward and lonely junior high school life behind, determined to become a normal girl with normal friends in high school. Glamorous, confident Mai Ouzuka is Renako's total opposite: wealthy, outgoing, and a literal fashion model. Against the odds, the two girls form an immediate connection. Renako thinks she may have found the best friend of her dreams...until Mai's romantic confession sends her into a tailspin. Renako wants to prove to Mai that being BFFs is better than being girlfriends, but Mai is dead set on convincing Renako that they're destined to be lovers. Let the love games begin!
In February 2020, Mikami released the first light novel volume with drawings by Eku Takushima under Shueisha's Dash X Bunko label. The sixth book volume was released by Shueisha in November 2023. under May 2020, Musshu debuted the manga adaption on the Nico Nico Seiga website under Shueisha's Dash X Comic section. On September 19, Shueisha released the seventh manga volume. The fifth English-language book volume and the sixth manga volume were released by Yen Press on September 10 and October 22, respectively.
